Parkersburg Personal Injury Lawyer Jim Leach Has Been Helping Victims in West Virginia & Ohio Recover From Their Injuries For Over 20 Years

Jim Leach’s Wood County roots run deep. A member of the sixth generation of his family to live and work in the Parkersburg area, Leach possesses an intimate knowledge of how area residents think and what they value.

During his own growing-up years, Leach and his siblings were raised by a single mom of modest means who taught her children the value of hard work.

“I grew up as kind of an underdog on the wrong side of the tracks,” Leach recalls. “I saw a lot of unfair things, like how insurance companies oftentimes treat people.”

That experience prompted him, at a young age, to set his sights on becoming a lawyer.

He received a B.S. degree from West Virginia University in 1984 and worked for several years in his father-in-law’s computer company. By 1992, he was ready to launch his longtime plan to become a lawyer and enrolled in West Virginia University College of Law. Married and the father of three children, Leach continued to work in the computer business while attending law school.

Graduating near the top of his class in 1995, he was recruited by a large insurance-defense law firm in Wheeling. His first two assignments were to deny coverage to two badly injured workers, which bothered him so much that after 12 days at the firm, he decided that he’d had enough.

“I came home and told my wife, ‘I can’t do this,’” he recalls.

Leach quit the job and joined a plaintiff’s firm, where he finally was able to represent injured individuals. But he missed Parkersburg, and after two years had a chance to return for a position as an assistant prosecutor in the Wood County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

He loved that job as well and after three years ran for the office of county prosecutor. His effort was unsuccessful, so he launched his own private law practice which has focused solely on plaintiff’s litigation to this day.

Along the way he’s scored numerous six- and seven-figure settlements and verdicts and gained a reputation as an attorney who’s not afraid to go to take on the toughest cases and the biggest insurance companies.

Leach brings more than 20 years of experience, but also a commitment to comprehensive client service.

“I only take your case if I can put you in a better position,” he says. “It’s not just trying to collect from an at-fault insurance company or at-fault party. It’s protecting your entire lifestyle and making sure that all the bases are covered. We look after your benefits – your health insurance, your auto insurance – protecting your credit, helping you get appointments.”

The work that he does is its own reward, he says.

“I help people, it’s meaningful to me and there’s nothing that pleases me more when a client at the conclusion of a case tells me, ‘Thanks for taking care of me, thanks for protecting me, thanks for looking out for me.’”
