Raleigh Manor LP (also known as Raleigh Center and/or Raleigh Nursing & Rehabilitation Center) is being sued by a woman who claims the nursing home was responsible for her mother’s death. Genesis Healthcare and Dr. William Powers have also been named as defendants in the case.

According to the lawsuit, Dr. Powers deviated from the accepted standard of medical care when treating the plaintiff’s mother, and his medical negligence led to her death. As a result, the daughter and her estate are claiming damages for:

  • Mental pain and suffering
  • Severe emotional distress
  • Medical and funeral expenses
  • Loss of kindly services

The plaintiff is also seeking punitive damages in the case.

The National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) and state Adult Protective Services (APS) both compile yearly statistics on nursing home abuse and neglect. It is estimated that over 30% of all nursing homes experience some form of resident abuse or neglect, and one out of every four nursing homes are cited for death or injury to a resident.
